EU Directive Action List

Tags: Data Management, Emails, Marketing, Online, Privacy, Spam, Telemarketing

Now is a good time to put your house in order following the implementation of the EU Directive on Privacy and Communications. It is worth adopting some of the advice in your e-marketing activities. 1. Mail your customers to ask them to opt-in to receiving further emails and newsletters from you.   2. Have a Plan B for contacting customers - it may require you to phone or write to ask their permission to email them.   3. Check the status of your database and see what permissions you have in place.  4. Consider using incentives to...

Mastering Metrics

The glory of online marketing is that with the right technology, everything can be measured.  It's true that, compared to conventional paper-based direct marketing, online marketing offers greater depth and variety of customer feedback, and it's all available so fast. In 48 hours, over 80% of your email response will be known. You'll be able to see when the email was opened, what was clicked on and what the customer went on to do.   We no longer live in an age where 50% of our advertising is wasted but we don't know which 50%. Marketing...

Love Your Customers: Email Best Practice

Tags: Direct Mail, Email Newsletters, Emails, Marketing, Online

What does the term 'best practice' mean in relation to email marketing?  Your customers are your key assets. Without them you have no sales. Yet you'd be surprised how badly we listen and respond to our customers when we don't see them face-to-face.  Here are a few ways to let your customers feel good about your company.  Ask Their Permission  Its important to check your audience wants to hear from you. It makes good commercial sense to focus on fewer contacts and get better response rates.  Check Preferences  While you're asking if...

News About Spam

Tags: Campaign Management, Marketing, Online, Privacy, Spam

I am confident in saying that 100% of our customers want spam to be made illegal. Many email customers tell us that they are fed up with spam: so fed up that they'd like to see government get tough on senders of unsolicited messages and take steps to criminalise it.  And people are asking for action to put warning labels on explicit pornographic emails.  Identify Theft - A Growing Concern  A high percentage of UK consumers have already been the victims of identity theft. This rapidly growing crime is rampant, particularly in the area of...

How To Get Your Email Opened?

Tags: Direct Mail, Emails, Marketing, Online

What is a 'normal' open rate? We're always being asked what is a "normal" open rate for email campaigns. It's a tough question to answer because so much depends on what the communication is and how expected and wanted the email is.  But as a rule of thumb, you can expect up to a 50% open rate for a top-notch opt-in email newsletter, though nearer 25% is more average.  And then again cold prospecting varies greatly depending on the quality of the list and the attractiveness of the offer.  Building a good email list Getting a good list is...

Online Fraud?

Tags: Data Management, Marketing, Online, Privacy

It was a clever fraud, mimicking the real barclays.co.uk home site and nearly fooling over 400 customers into revealing highly sensitive information. So good were the people behind it that within 20 minutes of a warning note appearing on the real Barclays home page it was also on the fake one. The Barclays email that directed customers to the fake site is an example of 'phishing' - using spam to lure computer users to websites cloaked to look like reputable companies and to deceive them into divulging personal financial data.  Similar cases...

Surveys, How Useful Are They?

Tags: Campaign Management, Data Management, Marketing, Online, Surveys

Surveys are a fantastic way of getting all sorts of useful information from your client base.  The best way to ensure your target group has the opportunity to view and complete them is to connect them to your email campaigns. In the past, MailAgent has carried out surveys with campaigns for a number of its clients and found them to be an excellent way of learning if they are enjoying the content that is being sent.   You don't need to try and second-guess what your clients think of the products and services you are providing, you can ask...

Challenges Of Multi-Country Campaigns

Tags: Emails, Marketing, Online, Systems Integration

The explosion in e-marketing has opened up new fields of global possibility to even the smallest of companies with websites accessible from any part of the world. How do you appeal to worldwide audiences who don't all speak your language, and how do you combine local cultural references with global brand values? Even in countries that speak the same language, there are linguistic nuances that can catch the naïve marketer unaware.Imagine then the complications of multiplying the potential for confusion by factoring in several other languages,...

What Are The Odds?

E-gambling is one of the big success stories of e-commerce and e-marketing. In the UK between 2009 and 2010, 4% of adults had bet online.  Between April 2010 and March 2011, online gambling regulated by the UK Gambling Commission yielded £660 million, a 5% increase from the previous year.  Many Britons (mainly male) consider online gambling as part of their day-to-day surfing behaviour, with punters spending time on sports betting, national lottery or casino sites. This trend has put gambling sites in the top ten of regularly viewed...
